Blue v. Gray

Since I need an excuse to procrastinate from making my final thesis corrections, it’s time for that long-simmering post on Florida vs. Wisconsin. It was originally supposed to be about good Wisconsin food, but no less than two of you wrote to say I should give some props to FL as well. Fair enough. We have enjoyed tremendously living in both places, so lots to recommend. Plus, this way I can hold out hope that the FL faction and the WI faction of our readership will get into a flame war in the comments section about the relative merits of their respective states. Hey, a blog administrator can dream, right?

So, here’s what’s to love about Florida/Tallahassee:
Oysters – raw, fresh, with hot sauce
Grits
BBQ and the smell thereof – except at Tiny’s
Bradley’s Country Sausage
Catfish
October
November
December
January
February
March
April (you get the picture)
College baseball
The Gulf
No photographs of naked women hanging up in the student union

And for Wisconsin/Madison:
Bratwurst
Colby
Cheddar
Cheese curd
Frozen custard
No flying cockroaches
Restaurants (separate post later!)
May
June
July
August
September
College football (sorry, Seminoles)
Concerts on the Square
The organ at the Overture Center
Humidity levels
Union Terrace

OK, partisans. Take it away.

I think you need to add Abbey Jewell (or family in general) to the Wisconsin list, Matthew.

A few more to ad to Wisconsin: NO HURRICANES (Miami or natural disasters), Friday night fish fry, Cheese heads, and just in case my grandmother ever sees this....Winnie's sloppy joes.
